Cincinnati Bengals rookie wide receiver Tee Higgins will wear No. 85 this season. Fittingly enough, A.J. Green wants to mentor Higgins much as Chad Johnson, the last man who wore that number, mentored him as a young player.

Green told Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com he hopes to be a mentor to Higgins much in the way Johnson was a mentor to him during his rookie season, prior to Johnson being traded to the New England Patriots:

“We were just out there winging it half the time,” Green said of the rookie tandem with Dalton. “I was so looking forward to play with Chad when I first got here. ‘Oh my God, I'm going to play with Chad and it's going to be unbelievable.' I've got to talk to Tee a couple of times. Great guy. Unbelievable talent. He's very glad he can come in and learn and I think he's going to help us out a lot because he can make plays down the field like no other.”

Green also told Hobson he had taken note of Higgins' talent during his time at Clemson, with former Bengals teammate T.J. Houshmandzadeh even saying Higgins reminded him of Green.

The Bengals made no bones about their draft strategy last month. They took LSU quarterback Joe Burrow with the first overall pick, and immediately drafted Higgins with the first pick of the second round. Cincinnati wants an explosive passing game.

Green is certainly part of that, too. The Bengals used their franchise tag on Green for the 2020 season but the two sides are hoping to reach an extension.

In any case, the Bengals will be glad to hear their All-Pro receiver wants to show Higgins the ropes as Cincy hopes to turn things around in 2020.
