As the Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs prepare to square off in Week 17, Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase decided to take some serious shots at the Chiefs defense.

“We know what we’re capable of. Everybody in the league does,” Chase stared out, innocently enough before adding, “That’s why KC doubles us the way that they do.”

A reporter then followed up by asking “What stands out about [the Chiefs’] secondary?” And that’s when Chase’s comments took a turn.

“If I’m being honest, nothing,” Chase said. “They just know how to play us. They know the leverages, they know what splits we in, they just know what we gonna do at certain moments. They throw a little double-doubles at us and stop the two best players on the outside, and that’s all they do. I mean, it’s not really like have a Jalen Ramsey on their squad.”

These Ja’Marr Chase comments on the Chiefs defense and secondary are wildly dismissive, yet in his answer, he does also admit that the unit knows how to stop him and fellow star WR Tee Higgins.

Ja’Marr Chase vs. the Chiefs

JaMarr Chase

The Chiefs defense has had mixed success against Chase and the Bengals offense. The Bengals and Chiefs have faced off four times since the former LSU WR entered the league in 2021. Twice they’ve met in the regular season and twice in the playoffs.

In Chase’s first go-round with Kansas City, the wideout exploded for 11 catches, 266 yards, and three touchdowns. Since then, he’s yet to have more than seven catches or crest 100 yards against the Bengals’ AFC rival.

Ahead of the Bengals-Chiefs Week 17 game, Chase is dealing with a shoulder injury, so while he should play against the Kansas City secondary that he has now likely offended, he may not be at 100 percent.
