Cincinnati Bengals star QB Joe Burrow has reshaped the franchise in just three short years, guiding the team to back-to-back deep playoff runs. It is now time for him to be paid for his success, and his contract will shape the Bengals salary cap puzzle.

“No player who is eligible or hopeful for an extension or new deal believes they will get theirs until Burrow gets his,” tweeted Kelsey Conway of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Due to the magnitude of his impending deal sometime in the next year, many Bengals players are awaiting his contract to get done before they are able to fetch a payday of their own.

Burrow has an $11.5 million cap hit in 2023, which pops to $29.5 million in 2024 when the fifth-year option on his rookie deal kicks in, according to Spotrac. It is unknown how large his next deal could be, but based on other top QB's like Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson, it should be well over $50 million a year.

“We plan on Joe Burrow being here a long time. He's the straw that's stirring it right now,” Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin said. “He'll be paid well, and he's earned it,” he added.

The Bengals are gearing up for another major season, and hoping the Burrow to Ja'Marr Chase connection can continue clicking. Their win total sits at 11.5 games, and they are slightly favored to win a stacked AFC North at +150 odds. The division is looking to be more competitive than it has been in years, with every team addressing their talent issues in the offseason.
