More than likely, the Cincinnati Bengals will select LSU quarterback Joe Burrow with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft later this month.

If and when that occurs, Burrow will join Cam Newton as the only players in the NFL's common era to win the Heisman Trophy and a national championship while also being chosen first overall in the same year, per Field Yates of ESPN.

Newton was taken No. 1 overall by the Carolina Panthers in 2011 after winning a title at Auburn.

Burrow is coming off of a junior campaign that some consider to be the best season by a quarterback in NCAA history ahead of likely being selected by the Bengals.

In leading LSU to the national title, he threw for 5,671 yards, 60 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 76.3 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 202. In addition, he rushed for 368 yards and five scores.

The 23-year-old arrived at LSU back in 2018 after transferring from Ohio State. His first season with the Tigers was pretty uneventful, as he finished with 2,894 yards, 16 touchdowns and five picks while completing 57.8 percent of his throws and registering a passer rating of 133.2.

That made Burrow's spectacular 2019 season that much more surprising and eye-opening.

The Bengals are coming off of a miserable 2-14 campaign and are prepared to move on from Andy Dalton under center. Cincinnati has missed the playoffs four years in a row, which comes on the heels of a stretch in which Cincy made five consecutive postseason appearances. However, the Bengals lost in the Wild Card Round each year.

Cincinnati has not won a playoff game since the 1990-91 season.
