The Los Angeles Dodgers take on the New York Yankees on Sunday Night Baseball. Our MLB odds series has our Dodgers Yankees prediction and pick. Find out how to watch Dodgers Yankees.

If you want to identify the American League MVP for 2024, we might have seen a 48-hour period in which that answer became more evident. Friday and Saturday night in The Bronx, the New York Yankees looked nothing like the team which stormed to the best record in the American League and was more than 25 games over .500 before the second weekend of June. The Yankees were dominant in the first two months of the season, but in these past two games, they have looked impotent and shorthanded against Dodger pitching. Yes, the Dodgers have legitimately good pitching. They develop pitchers really well and create depth even in the midst of injuries. However, the Yankees have been handling good pitching. Teams don't get 45-19 records without having solutions to formidable challenges. In these first two games of this much-anticipated weekend series against the Dodgers, the Yankees have scored a total of just four runs, only three in regulation. One of the runs was scored in extra innings with the ghost runner on second base. Saturday night, two of the three New York runs were Aaron Judge solo homers. Judge is playing like the superstar he is, but in these past two games versus Los Angeles, he hasn't had any help. Why is this the case? Simple: Juan Soto, injured, has not played. Without Soto getting on base and providing a powerful, disruptive presence in the top third of the batting order. Removing Soto from the puzzle has revealed the Yankees as a much weaker team. Aaron Judge is certainly in the MVP conversation, but we can now clearly see what happens when Soto is taken out of the mix. We will see if the Yankees can stabilize without Soto, in their attempt to fend off the Baltimore Orioles in what looks like a classic race for the American League East Division championship.

Why The Dodgers Could Cover The Spread

The Dodger offense has struggled, but you have seen Los Angeles pitching handcuff Yankee bats in the first two games of this series. Now the Dodgers turn to their staff ace and their big pitching acquisition in the offseason, Tyler Glasnow. He is very familiar with the Yankees, having pitched against them regularly in the American League East as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays. Glasnow's big strength as a pitcher is that he gets hitters to swing and miss a lot. He piles up strikeouts and therefore is not vulnerable to the batted ball and bad BABIP luck. He will be hard for the Soto-less Yankees to handle. You can see, by the way, that the Dodgers are slight favorites in this game even though the Yankees are several games better in the standings and are playing at home. That's all about Juan Soto being hurt. That matters, as we have seen the past two days.

Why The Yankees Could Cover The Spread

The Dodger offense did score several late-inning runs on Saturday, but it remains inconsistent. The Dodgers really miss Max Muncy, who adds pop and a lot of walks to the Los Angeles lineup. They need him back for this offense to reach its potential. The Dodgers did not score in the first 10 innings on Friday night. Saturday's outburst of runs doesn't mean their problems have been solved.

Facing Los Angeles is Yankee pitcher Luis Gil, who has to be considered a prime American League Cy Young contender. Gil has been a breakout star for the New York pitching staff, dominating consistently with Gerrit Cole unable to play. When Cole returns, the Yankees could have two ace-level pitchers on their staff.

Final Dodgers-Yankees Prediction & Pick

The Juan Soto injury makes this game hard to predict, but the Yankees are a home underdog. Grabbing them at this price feels like an opportunity with Luis Gil on the mound. Take New York.

Final Dodgers-Yankees Prediction & Pick: Yankees +1.5
