The Milwaukee Brewers will try to win again as they face off with the Miami Marlins on Saturday in South Florida. It's time to continue our MLB odds coverage with a Brewers-Marlins prediction and pick.
The Brewers edged out the Marlins 2-1 on Friday night. Kolten Wong got things going in the top of the first when he cracked an 0-1 pitch into the seats in right field for a solo home run. It was his second home run of 2022 and gave the Brewers a 1-0 lead. Later, Jesus Aguilar answered back when he crushed a 1-2 pitch into the seats in left field for a solo home run. It was his fourth home run in 2022 and tied the game. Neither team did anything until the ninth.
Tanner Scott came into the game in relief and loaded up the bases, which forced the Marlins to turn to Anthony Bender. After getting one out, Bender walked Jace Peterson to score in the go-ahead run. He retired the next two hitters to keep the deficit at 2-1. However, Josh Hader shut the door down for Milwaukee, as he retired the Marlins on seven pitches to seal the game.
Corbin Burnes pitched a masterful game, allowing one earned run on five hits with seven strikeouts through seven innings. Also, Pablo Lopez did well for Miami, tossing seven innings while allowing one earned run on three hits and 11 strikeouts. The Brewers are 21-12 and first in the NL Central, while the Marlins are 14-18 and fourth in the NL East.

Why The Brewers Could Cover The Spread
Article Continues BelowEric Lauer takes the mound for Milwaukee. He is 3-0 with a 1.82 ERA in 2022. Lauer tossed 6 1/3 innings in a 6-3 win against the Atlanta Braves, allowing one earned run on two hits with three walks and eight strikeouts. It was the most walks he had allowed all season, as he has only seven over five starts. Additionally, Lauer has struck out 32 batters over the last three starts. He will look for some help from an offense that has been up and down in 2022.
The Brewers rank 15th in batting average, 14th in on-base percentage, fourth in runs, and third in home runs. Willy Adames, Rowdy Tellez, Hunter Renfroe, and Christian Yelich lead the offense. Adames has eight home runs with 23 RBIs. Meanwhile, Tellez has clipped seven home runs with 27 RBIs, while Renfroe has eight homers and 13 RBIs. Yelich is performing better this season, as he has delivered five home runs and 20 RBIs. The four combined to go 2 for 15 last night, which explained the two total runs the Brewers ended up scoring.
The Brewers will cover the spread if Lauer continues his masterful season and gives another exceptional start. Also, Milwaukee covers if the “big four” in their lineup can deliver and get more than two hits today. The Brewers' lineup is facing a starting pitcher that has not performed to his expectations yet in 2022.
Why The Marlins Could Cover The Spread
Trevor Rogers will go for Miami. He is 1-4 with a 5.00 ERA in 2022. Rogers has struggled but performed better in his last start. He tossed 5 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball, allowing five hits. Now, Rogers looks to replicate the performance and keep the Milwaukee hitters at bay. He will look to the offense for support.
The Marlins rank 15th in batting average, 16th in on-base percentage, 11th in home runs, and 18th in runs scored. Miami has produced an inconsistent product on offense and will look to score more than one run today. Aguilar leads them with four home runs and 15 RBIs. Also, Jazz Chisholm Jr. has performed well, slugging six home runs and 24 RBIs. He went 0 for 4 last night and will look to get on base today. Additionally, the Marlins will look for a better performance from their bullpen. Miami put themselves into trouble last night and walked home the go-ahead run. Now, they will attempt to bounce back.
The Marlins will cover the spread if Rogers can give them a quality start and keep his team in the game. Additionally, they cover if Chisholm can deliver and set the pace in the leadoff spot. The Marlins have to get to Bauer early to prevent him from getting into a groove.
Final Brewers-Marlins Prediction & Pick
It looks like a promising pitching matchup. However, Bauer has proven himself repeatedly while Rogers has been inconsistent. The Brewers are also one of the best teams in baseball, while the Marlins are still learning how to play consistently. Expect the Brewers to win and cover.
Final Brewers-Marlins Prediction & Pick: Brewers -1.5 (+146)
