LAFC will be hosting Minnesota United in a massive Western Conference game this weekend, where both teams will be able to show their case for the MLS title. With that said, it’s a good time to check out our MLS odds series, which includes our LAFC-Minnesota prediction and pick we have laid out below.
LAFC is currently the best team in the MLS this season. Out of eight games they played, the younger Los Angeles team has a 6-1-1 record, with their only loss coming away from home, visiting the LA Galaxy. That was at the start of April and since then, LAFC was able to link two wins, including a comeback win against Cinncinati away from home. Minnesota United is not far away from LAFC, as they are only four points behind. They recovered from two defeats, including a shock defeat at home to the Seattle Sounders, and won two in a row. Now, they can show the MLS that they are going to be a problem for strong teams come playoff time.

Why LAFC Could Win This Match
As said in the beginning, LAFC is the best team in the MLS this season. Their impressive six wins so far all came with at least two goals scored and they are the second-best offense in the league this year, behind Austin FC. Additionally, LAFC has been able to dominate opponents at times, winning 4-2 away to Orlando City, a team near the top of the Eastern Conference. Thus, their potent offense combined with a fairly solid defense will always give them a chance to win.
Article Continues BelowAdditionally, LAFC is yet to lose at home. It is true that they did drop points in a game versus the Portland Timbers, but the Los Angeles squad utterly dominated that game with 25 shots and an xG of 2.2. Despite that game and a 1-0 loss in the Western Conference derby against Austin FC, LAFC enter this game beaming with confidence and ready to show the world their start was not a fluke.
They will have to face a strong team in Minnesota United, but that should be no issue. A specific strength of LAFC this season is their variety of goalscorers, so the opponents really do not know where the danger is coming from. Obviously, former Arsenal man Carlos Vela presents the most danger, but 12 different players scored for LAFC this season already, so it is not only about stopping Vela. It should be, by all accounts, an LAFC win.
Why Minnesota United Could Win This Match
Minnesota United, just like LAFC, is a fairly young team, but they have been stamping their authority on the MLS this season. Despite some setbacks, like the two losses in a row mentioned above, their start to the season gives them the right to think they will make some noise in the playoffs. If recent form is any indicator, Minnesota United will enter this match with a bevy of confidence, and coming in as underdogs will likely just make them want to win this match even more.
A huge reason why Minnesota United could win this match is their man up front, Robin Lod. The Finnish striker who has been a part of the squad since 2019 is going to lead the line on Sunday, after scoring in back-to-back weeks. This has surely done a lot for his confidence and given the fact that LAFC's defense has been shaky at times, the Finnish international should be able to use any holes that they leave in front of the goal.
Additionally, Minnesota United might seek their chance through the fact that they did not buckle against some seriously strong opposition this season. Their matchup on the first matchday was Philadelphia Union, a squad that now leads the pack in the Eastern Conference. Minnesota grabbed a point away from home and even opened the scoring through Lod. Against Austin FC, even though it was a loss, Minnesota's players were close, connecting on nine shots toward Austin's goalkeeper. If they can show that same desire in this match, they have every chance to win the game.
Final LAFC-Minnesota Prediction and Pick
All that was said about Minnesota United was true, but LAFC just seems too strong right now. Vela has a ton of support from other players and there is too much offensive talent for Minnesota to answer. Our final LAFC-Minnesota prediction is an LAFC win at their Banc of California Stadium.
Final LAFC-Minnesota Pick: LAFC (-230)
