Why The Rays Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Rays have a very tough matchup at the plate. Crawford is a great pitcher, so the Rays need to be locked in. However, of his nine earned runs allowed, Crawford has allowed seven of those in his last three starts. It is still a very good stretch for him, but he is slowly becoming human. 19 of his 35 hits allowed of come in the last three starts, as well. The Rays should be able to put some pressure on Crawford in this game.

Eflin has a 3.75 ERA this season, and he is coming off his best start of the season. He went seven innings and allowed just one earned run against the Chicago White Sox. Now, that is a much worse offensive team than the Red Sox, but it is a good step towards becoming the pitcher he was in 2023. The Red Sox are a league average offense, so Eflin does have a pretty good chance of having a good game. If he can repeat his performance from the White Sox game, the Rays will open this series with a win.

Why The Red Sox Will Cover The Spread/Win

Crawford is having an amazing start to the season. On the surface level, Crawford has a 1.75 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and 46 strikeouts in 46.1 innings pitched. In his eight starts, Crawford has allowed five or less hits in six of them. In fact, Crawford is holding opponents to a batting average of .206. The Rays have been striking out at a high rate, and their chase percentage is over 30 percent. Crawford should be able to have a good game in this one and shut down the Rays.

Crawford is in the 89th percentile in hard hit percentage, 84th percentile in chase rate, and 81st percentile in average exit velocity. Looking at those categories, Crawford is having a great season. The Rays are not having a good season at the plate. Crawford needs to get back to his shutdown ways, and this is a great chance for him to do so.

Final Rays-Red Sox Prediction & Pick

This should be a good game. Both pitchers are good, and I am expecting Eflin to keep getting better on the season. It will come down to which offense can be better in the box. The Rays and Red Sox can both get hot at the plate, so it is a tough game to predict. With that in mind, I trust the Red Sox a little more than the Rays in this game. I trust Kutter Crawford a little more, as well. I will take the Red Sox to win this game straight up.
