In comparison, their pitching has been red-hot up to this point and is the third-best staff in the MLB. Tanner Houck, Kutter Crawford, Nick Pivetta, and Garrett Whitlock have made up a very good pitching staff with all five varying from good to great overall. The Red Sox have shown their potential this season, but they have struggled to find some consistency and that has been the biggest issue this season for them overall.
The Orioles are entering this series with a 34-18 record and they enter this series on a five-game winning streak. Their offense has dipped a bit recently, while their pitching has been great, and are a top-five staff in the MLB. The Orioles have so much young talent behind the plate with Jordan Westburg, Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, Anthony Santander, Cedric Mullins, Colton Cowser, and Ryan Mountcastle making up the bulk of it, and there is somehow even more than that. They improved their pitching this past offseason by adding Corbin Burnes to go with Grayson Rodriguez, Cole Irvin, Kyle Bradish, and Albert Suarez. The Orioles were the best team in the AL last season and they somehow improved this season and are in a battle for the title of best team in the AL.

Why The Red Sox Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Red Sox are starting Kutter Crawford on the mound and he has a 2-3 record, a 2.89 ERA, and a 1.20 WHIP. He has allowed 22 runs on 55 hits with 20 walks and 61 strikeouts through 62.1 total innings so far this year. Through the 11 games that he has started in this year the Red Sox are 3-8. In his last start, he pitched 4.1 innings and allowed six runs on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts in a Red Sox loss. Crawford has been solid, but the team needs to back him up more, which makes this an interesting matchup against the Orioles behind the plate.
The Red Sox's offense has been solid to start the season. They are 14th in team batting average at .243 after finishing last season with a .258 batting average. The offense is led by Rafael Devers, Tyler O'Neill, Ceddanne Rafaela, and Jarren Duran in most of the offensive categories behind the plate. Devers leads in batting average at .273 and in OBP at .369. O'Neill leads in home runs at 11, Rafaela leads in RBI at 28, and then Duran leads in total hits at 59. The Red Sox have been playing decent offense behind the plate, but they get a tough matchup against Corbin Burnes on the mound for the Orioles with how good he has been since coming over.

Through 65.2 innings, he has allowed 21 runs on 53 hits with 17 walks and 66 strikeouts up to this point in the season. The Orioles are 7-4 in his 11 starts this season. In his last start, he pitched six innings and allowed three runs on seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts in an Orioles win. Burnes was a great addition in the offseason for the Orioles and has been a key piece for them on the mound. He has a favorable matchup against the Red Sox and their offense is inconsistent.
The Orioles' offense has been one of the best in the MLB but has dipped recently. They are 12th in team batting average at .244 after finishing last season with a .259 batting average. The offense is led by Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson leads the way in most of the batting categories. Rutschman leads the way in batting average at .300, in RBI at 37, and in total hits at 62. Henderson leads the way in home runs at 17 and then in OBP at .359. This offense will have an interesting matchup against Kutter Crawford who has been solid against the Red Sox.

The Red Sox have the talent to keep this game close. The Orioles are red-hot and already beat the Red Sox in the first game of the series, but Crawford is the difference. He has been solid and can help slow down the Orioles behind the plate. Expect the Red Sox to keep things close, but the Orioles should win thanks to Burnes and the game being at home.
