Tanner Houck vs. Garrett Crochet
Tanner Houck (5-5) with a 1.85 ERA
Last Start: Houck dominated in his last outing, going seven innings while allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out six and walking two in a win over the Detroit Tigers.
2024 Road Splits: Houck has been masterful on the road. He is 3-2 with a 1.45 ERA. Now, he looks to keep the dominant numbers going as he pitches in front of the Southside Chicago faithful.
Garrett Crochet (5-5) with a 3.49 ERA
Last Start: Crochet had a great performance in his last outing, going six innings while allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out eight. However, he did not factor in the decision against the Milwaukee Brewers.
2024 Home Splits: Crochet has been excellent at home. He is 3-2 with a 2.50 ERA this season at Guaranteed Rate Field. Therefore, he looks to stay sharp and give the White Sox some hope at home.

Why The Red Sox Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Red Sox have produced a decent offense this season as they have managed to compete in the AL East. Significantly, they are 13th in batting average, on-base percentage runs, and home runs. Boston also is ninth in slugging percentage. Overall, there are four players in this lineup who can do some serious damage.
Rafael Devers is the best hitter on this team. Additionally, he comes into this series with a historical batting average of .336 with 41 hits, four home runs, 17 RBIs, and 27 runs over 33 games against Chicago. Jarren Duran is the leadoff hitter on most nights for Boston. Also, he is currently batting .258 with three home runs, 24 RBIs, and 34 runs. Ceddanne Rafaela has brought the run-driving ability. Currently, he is hitting .206 with seven home runs, 33 RBIs, and 28 runs. Wilyer Abreu looks to batter the baseball. So far, he is batting .272 with six home runs, 22 RBIs, and 26 runs.
The Red Sox's pitching staff has been pretty good, ranking fifth in team ERA. Significantly, Houck looks to keep the momentum going as he starts for Boston. According to stats from Baseball Savant, Houck has a pitching run value of 90. Moreover, his breaking run value is 100, and his offspeed run value is 94. The only pitch he seems to struggle to prevent scoring with is the fastball. Thus, Houck needs his offspeed pitches to hit the mark. When he exits the game, the Red Sox will rely on a bullpen that is 11th in team ERA.
The Red Sox will cover the spread if their four best hitters can produce. Then, they need a good outing from Houck.
Why The White Sox Will Cover The Spread/Win
The White Sox are dreadful on offense. Sadly, they are last in all major offensive categories. It has not been a pretty sight. However, the return of Luis Robert may help.
But Robert may play with some trade distractions. Ultimately, there is a chance the White Sox trade him this season. But for now, he remains a member of the White Sox and the most dangerous hitter in this lineup. Andrew Vaughn is the only legitimate threat in what is an awful offense.
The White Sox have a horrible pitching staff, ranking 29th in team ERA. Therefore, Crochet will do his best to improve the stats and keep his team in the game. Crochet has a pitching run value of 90 on Baseball Savant, which is solid. Additionally, his fastball run value is 99, which puts him in the elite category with that pitch. But his breaking ball value has not been good. Unfortunately, the value is among the lowest in the league. When Crochet exits the game, he will turn it over to a bullpen that is 26th in the majors.
The White Sox will cover the spread if Robert can lead the charge and give Chicago some runs. Next, they need a great outing from Crochet.
Final Red Sox-White Sox Prediction & Pick
The White Sox won the season series against the Red Sox 4-2 last season, including a 2-1 mark at home against the Red Sox. Furthermore, they went 4-2 against them in 2022, despite going 1-2 at home. The White Sox also went 4-3 against the Red Sox in 2021, with another home series win. Overall, they have done a solid job of beating Boston.
But the 2024 Red Sox seem to play miles better when they are on the road, as they are 17-13, compared to just 13-18 at home. Furthermore, they enjoy beating bad teams. The White Sox are the ultimate bad team. Therefore, expect the Red Sox to come out firing as they look to clobber some runs across the board. Houck will have an excellent outing, and it will be enough to help Boston cover the spread on the road in the first of a four-game series.
