The New York Yankees are making fans believe that this year may be different, as their new dynamic duo of Juan Soto and Aaron Judge has their record at 37-18. The Los Angeles Angels are struggling with some injuries and the departure of Shohei Ohtani. Brandon Drury, Miguel Sano, Mike Trout, and Anthony Rendon are all out indefinitely with injuries, leaving slim pickings for the rest of the lineup. The Angels most recent series was a three-game sweep at the hands of the Cleveland Guardians. It is time to continue our MLB odds series with a Yankees-Angels prediction, pick, and how-to-watch.
The season won't get any easier for the Angels when they face Luis Gil in this matchup. Gil's surgically repaired elbow from Tommy John surgery served him well this season, as Gil owns a 6-1 record with a 2.11 ERA. Gil allowed five earned runs against the Brewers on April 26th, and in five starts since then, he has two earned runs over 30 2/3 innings. It looks like there will be no slowing down Gil, and it doesn't seem likely that a depleted Angels lineup will be able to do it here. The entire series is a gauntlet for the Angels, as every Yankees starting pitcher has a sub-3.30 ERA.
Tyler Anderson has also been in good form, allowing two earned runs over his last two starts and 15 innings. The Angels won both games, which is better than the remaining Angels' pitchers. Anderson will offer the best chance for the Angels to win in this series.

Why The Yankees Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Angels are hitting well despite a rash of injuries, but that could take a hit against Luis Gil. The Angels are batting .255 with a .317 on-base percentage and 4.7 runs/nine. Their offense is mostly led by averaging almost two home runs per game over their last nine, but Gil has given up just three home runs over 55 1/3 innings this season.
The Yankees have a better all-around offense, evidenced by their .330 on-base percentage and 5.3 runs/nine over their last ten games. It may not be the greatest numbers considering their abundance of talent on offense, but it'll be enough to get the job done in this game.
Why The Angels Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Angels don't have many reasons to believe they can beat the Yankees, especially after losing three in a row over the weekend to the Guardians. However, before that series, the Angels won five of seven games, all as underdogs. Does that mean they should be bet on in this game? Not necessarily, but they aren't the worst team to back if you're looking for a money-line underdog.
Final Yankees-Angels Prediction & Pick
The Angels may have been able to beat the Astros and Rangers over their last ten games, but both of those teams aren't performing as well as the Yankees. They also don't have a starting pitcher like Luis Gil, who should be able to shut down the Angels in this matchup. The Yankees may run away with this game against a below-average Angels bullpen if Tyler Anderson manages to keep it close.
