Why The Yankees Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Yankees are the best team in the American League. Now, they will attempt to take down a team that had their number last season. Their bats will look to rectify the situation.
The Yanks have clobbered the baseball well. So far, they are fourth in batting average and first in runs. The Yankees are also second in on-base percentage, home runs, and slugging percentage. However, they have some players who have struggled against the Red Sox.
Anthony Volpe is an excellent leadoff hitter. However, he is hitting only .205 with eight hits, one home run, three RBIs, and three runs over 12 games against the Sox. Juan Soto is one of the best hitters in the world. Yet, he is batting just .195 with eight hits, two home runs, five RBIs, and five runs over 12 games against Boston. Others have done better against the Sox.
Aaron Judge is batting .236 with 81 hits, 24 home runs, 50 RBIs, and 64 runs over 91 games against the Red Sox. Now, he will look to hit another one over the Green Monster. Giancarlo Stanton is still a threat. Ultimately, he is hitting .264 with 68 hits, 15 home runs, 44 RBIs, and 36 runs over 72 games against the Red Sox.
The Yankees have the best pitching staff in all of baseball. Amazingly, they rank first in the league in team pitching. It is also incredibly difficult to hit against anyone in their bullpen. Ultimately, they are third in team ERA.
The Yankees will cover the spread if their bats can continue to club the baseball. Then, they need their elite pitching to hit their spots.
Why The Red Sox Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Red Sox are not the best team or the worst. Yet, they are finding ways to stay competitive as they stand at 34-34 and third in the American League East. Things have been up and down. Now, they must overcome their oldest rival.
The Red Sox have done a solid job of hitting the baseball. Currently, they are 10th in batting average, ninth in on-base percentage, and 12th in runs. Boston also ranks 11th in home runs and seventh in slugging percentage.
Rafael Devers is still one of the best mashers in the league. Ultimately, he has hit .266 with 100 hits, 25 home runs, 63 RBIs, and 63 runs over 100 career games against the Yankees. Jarren Duran has been a strong leadoff hitter for the Sox. Now, he hopes to get this offense going. Duran is batting .214 with six hits, two RBIs, and three runs over 10 career games against the Yankees. Furthermore, he hit .273 with six hits, one RBI, and three runs over eight games last season against the Yankees.
The Red Sox have stayed afloat this season because of great pitching. Remarkably, they are fifth in team ERA. Boston also has a solid bullpen. Overall, their relievers rank eighth in team ERA.
The Red Sox will cover the spread if Devers and Duran can both set up the offense for success. Then, Criswell needs to avoid making mistakes against Soto, Judge, and the rest.
Final Yankees-Red Sox Prediction & Pick
The Yankees entered Thursday with a 43-27 mark against the spread. Amazingly, they have not just won games but found ways to almost always cover the spread. The Sox are 30-38 against the spread this season. Ultimately, they have eeked out wins often. The Yankees have the advantage here on the mound. Consequently, that may be all they need as they conquer their rivals at Fenway to start the series.
