The Buffalo Bills have had a strong offseason as the team is shaping up to be one of the best in the league. They arguably have the best roster on paper which bodes well for their Super Bowl hopes. However, the coaching staff will have to release some players in the coming weeks. For that reason, we look at three potential cut candidates on the Bills roster entering training camp.

Considering the starting lineup is set, most of the camp battles will be for backup positions. This will be important for fans to pay attention to, as the Bills aim to generate the best group 0f depth players on the roster. Either way, there likely won't be many surprising releases throughout training camp, as Buffalo is in great shape moving forward.

One key area to keep an eye on is the punter situation. The Bills have two punters on the roster right now, so one of them will receive the ax before the start of the season. Additionally, the tight end position will likely get trimmed down as well while the running back room could go through some changes as well.

With that said, here are three cut candidates on the Bills roster as training camp kicks off.

Bills Roster Cut Candidates

Matt Haack

It's not every year an NFL franchise selects a punter in the draft, but here we are. Buffalo aims to improve the punting situation, as Matt Haack hasn't been all that reliable. The front office took Matt Araiza in the sixth round this year and is in line to compete with Haack for the starting job. We'll see how it plays out, but the rookie has to be the favorite to be the Bills' punter for the 2022 season.

Buffalo likely won't make a decision until late in the preseason. Both punters will have a chance to prove themselves, which gives the coaching staff plenty of time to evaluate Matt Haack and Matt Araiza. Regardless, the Bills utilized a draft pick on Araiza for a reason which should lead to Haack being released from the roster.

Tommy Sweeney

There are just too many tight ends on the roster right now which doesn't bode well for Tommy Sweeney. He would have had a chance if the Bills didn't acquire OJ Howard or Jalen Wydermyer in the offseason. Although Sweeney offers value as a blocker, there is much more upside in Howard and Wydermyer. Additionally, it's not like anybody is going to take the starting role away from Dawson Knox, as the Bills are rather stout at tight end.

For that reason, Tommy Sweeney must be considered a cut candidate. Buffalo has a plethora of tight ends and not everyone is going to make the final roster. Luckily for him, Sweeney will have opportunities to prove himself to opposing franchises through the preseason. So as long as he plays well for the Bills during this time, we could see the veteran tight end sign elsewhere.

Zack Moss

Many were hopeful that Zack Moss and Devin Singletary would create a formidable duo in the backfield. However, things took a turn when Buffalo stopped giving Moss the rock in the second half of the regular season last year. He was routinely outplayed by the other running backs on the roster and the Bills didn't seem eager to get him back into the mix.

On top of that, the front office made sure to sign Duke Johnson and draft James Cook. Both of them are capable in the passing game and have a real chance to be a strong backup for Singletary. So with that in mind, the Bills may opt to let Zack Moss go as Buffalo has some decent backup running backs.
