Josh Allen played well in the Buffalo Bills27-17 win over the New York Jets during their season opener. He passed for 312 yards, completed 33 of 46 passes, and threw for two touchdowns. He was also able to help the Bills on the ground, rushing for 57 yards and a touchdown.

However, there is one area that he could still improve on when he runs, and he’s already working on it.

Despite the win, Allen dropped two of his 14 carries against the Jets. But the 24-year-old, who was selected by Buffalo with the seventh overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, is already looking for ways to limit his fumbles by addressing two important areas, according to Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News.

“Whether I break the pocket and run, making sure the ball’s tucked and where it’s supposed to be. Two, it’s designed drills, which coach Dorsey kind of puts us through and forces us to kind of get in weird positions, but also maintaining good ball security. You don’t get a lot of live reps at it, because it’s practice and we’re not really getting hit. But I think you can make strides in those two areas.”

Allen has had 14 fumbles in 29 regular-season games for the Bills. During his rookie season in 2018, he had five in 12 games played.

As a sophomore, he did much better, dropping the football just seven times while playing in all 16 of Buffalo’s games. However, the issue reared its head again in Allen’s first career playoff game against the Houston Texans in the wild card game last January. Allen had two fumbles and lost one possession during the postseason games, which the Texans won in overtime 22-19.

The Bills’ young quarterback looks to improve on his Week 1 performance when Buffalo faces the Miami Dolphins in their second game on Sunday.
