The Portland Trail Blazers don't have a ton of cap space to work with this summer, so coming into free agency they knew they were looking for some cheap shooting help. It appears they have found one of those guys signing Nik Stauskas to a one-year minimum deal.

He played 41 games last year between the Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets averaging 12.8 minutes and 4.4 points. He shot 40 percent from deep and that is exactly why the Trail Blazers brought him in, to come off the bench and hit three-pointers.

After a standout college career with the Michigan Wolverines, the Sacramento Kings had high hopes for him when they drafted him with the 8th overall pick in the 2014 draft. His time only lasted one season with the Kings before being traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. His best season statistically was the 2016-17 season with the 76ers where he averaged 9.5 points and shot 43.3 percent from the field.

This is a good deal for the Trail Blazers as it's low risk, high reward. They don't have much money invested in Stauskas but if he can be another shooter off the bench, it could prove to be a key signing. It is actually kind of surprising that the Nets didn't resign Stauskas after he had a good year with them, but they decided to invest their money in bringing back Joe Harris.

Don't expect the Trail Blazers to have many more moves during free agency, and if they do look for them to be similar deals to this one.
