Experts have revealed how dangerous Teofimo Lopez's situation was after his fight against George Kambosos Jr.

Teofimo Lopez did not only suffer a devastating lightweight title defeat to his underdog opponent George Kambosos Jr. What's even worse, doctors who studied his movements during and after the fight had the same conclusion that he “could have died” out there.

“[Lopez] He could have died, for sure,” Dr. Dahl declared via ESPN. “How he breathed, I can’t even explain to you. It’s like somebody tied a 300-pound set of weights around his chest…like his neck and chest were in a vise. That’s how he fought.”

“He’s lucky he’s not dead,” Dr. Peter Constantino, executive director of the New York Head and Neck Institute, added. “I mean, really lucky.”

After the fight, Lopez came clean and admitted that heading into it, he began experiencing shortness of breath and swelling in the neck area moments before the weigh-ins.

According to Lopez, he had mistaken it for his “asthma” and intended not to disclose his status to avoid any uncertenties.

“I thought it was just my asthma,” the Brooklyn native said via BJPenn.com.“I fought through asthma before. If I told everybody, they would’ve canceled the fight. But I chose not to, because of the amount of pressure I was under.

It is yet to be known whether Team Lopez will have a change of plan. Lopez's father Teofimo Sr. earlier insisted that they are not opting for a rematch against Kambosos but will “go up to 140 lbs” instead.
