Avni Yildirim wants all the smoke with Canelo Alvarez as he hoped to unify the WBA-WBC titles on Saturday in Miami.

Yildirim, the beneficiary of a mandatory title defense, told SunSport he feels extremely confident he can hold his own against Alvarez:

“Canelo is an outstanding fighter and a great champion,” Avni Yildirim said, via SunSport. “But he is not invincible. He is human just like me. We‘ll see what happens.

“I am perfectly prepared, ready to go and can‘t wait to walk into the ring. I will do my best to make my people proud.”

Alvarez fought just one time in 2020 as he sought his release from Golden Boy Promotions. Now that he has obtained a split, he figures to be in the ring more often.

In fact, Alvarez has served Yildirim with his own form of subtle disrespect. He verbally agreed to a bout with WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders.

Yildirim told SunSport it would be unwise to look past him in anticipation of the Saunders fight:

“Billy who? It doesn‘t matter to me what anybody says,” Avni Yildirim said. “I couldn‘t care less.

“It can only be good for me if he thinks of anything else but me. I hope he does. But I‘m sure that I will get his attention. We will all find out Saturday night.”

However, Alvarez has said he is not taking anything for granted. He is focused on the task at hand and unifying against Yildirim:

“I’ve always had these situations where people are asking and looking ahead to other fights,” Canelo Alvarez said, via Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports. “I stay focused on the short-term goal of unifying, but I’m 100 percent focused. That’s how I handle it, by only focusing on the upcoming fight.”

The card is slated to begin at 7 p.m. ET on DAZN. Can Yildirim pull off the upset? He certainly is talking like a contender.
