Why The Brewers Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Brewers have their rookie on the mound, and he is off to a great start since being called up. Gasser was very good in Triple-A, and he has carried that to the big league roster. Gasser has made two starts, and the Brewers have dominated in both of them. In the two games, Gasser has thrown 11 innings, allowed just one run on eight hits, struck out six, and walked one while owning a 2-0 record. Those starts were against the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Marlins are a similar team. If Gasser can continue to pitch well, the Brewers are going to win this game.

Rogers is on the mound for the Marlins, and he is not having the best season. Rogers is 1-6 with a 5.79 ERA and 1.76 WHIP. Along with that, opponents are batting .307 off Rogers this season. The Brewers are actually one of the better offenses in the MLB, so they have a great chance to put up some runs on Rogers. As long as the Brewers continue to play as they have been, they will cover this spread.

Why The Marlins Will Cover The Spread/Win

Miami has to give Rogers some run support in this game. Gasser, as mentioned, is having a great season so far. However, the Marlins can still hit the ball pretty well. In fact, they are batting .260 over the last week. With that, the Marlins have scored 29 runs. That is almost five runs per game, since they played six games over that span. If the Marlins can continue to hit the ball well and score some runs they will be able to at least cover this spread at home.

Rogers is struggling this season, but he does a few things well. One thing is he gets opponents to chase 30.2 percent of the time. That is in the 72nd percentile in the MLB. Hitters can tend to get themselves out at times, and Rogers needs to make that happen in this game. Along with that, Rogers has a very high ground ball rate. Keeping the ball on the ground will keep the Brewers in the park, and help the Marlins cover the spread.

Final Brewers-Marlins Prediction & Pick

Do not overthink this game. The Brewers have outscored their opponents 21-4 in the two games Gasser has pitched this season. Not only is he shutting teams down, but the Brewers are scoring at a high rate when Gasser pitches. I am fully expecting Gasser to continue his hot start pitching in this game. I am also expecting the Brewers to score some runs off Rogers in this game. The Brewers are my pick to win this game, and I will take them to cover the spread.
