The Milwaukee Brewers ended 2021 with one of the best overall pitching staffs in the MLB. Forming any kind of offensive rally against their starting rotation and bullpen proved to be incredibly challenging for the majority of teams last year. But their offense ranked near the bottom of the league in most categories. It was clear that the team needed to upgrade in the hitting department if they wanted to become a true World Series contender. The Brewers reportedly even went out of their budget to sign outfielder Andrew McCutchen.

McCutchen, a former MVP, signed an $8.5 million dollar contract with Milwaukee this season. The contract was pricy for the small market Brewers. But owner Mark Attanasio recently provided a three-worded response explaining the reasoning for bring in the outfielder.

“He's Andrew McCutchen.”

Andrew McCutchen is not the same player he once was. But his pedigree and reputation speaks for itself. The outfielder is a five-time All-Star who won the NL MVP in 2013 during his time with the Pirates.

However, he is still fairly productive. Cutch slashed just .222/.334/.444 with a .778 OPS in 2021. But he did club 27 home runs and drove in 80 runs. His veteran presence alone is beneficial for Milwaukee as they hope to make the World Series this year.

The Brewers strength is still their pitching staff. The rotation is led by reigning NL Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes and star Brandon Woodruff. The Bullpen features top-tier arms such as Josh Hader and Devin Williams. But the addition of McCutchen offers a quality piece to the puzzle from an offensive perspective.
