Why The Brewers Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Brewers are dominating the National League Central and look to continue playing well as they face the Padres for the start of a four-game set. Ultimately, they have some of the best bats in the majors

The Brewers are seventh in batting average and runs. Also, they are fourth in on-base percentage, 13th in home runs, and 11th in slugging percentage. Milwaukee has some solid players who can make good contact.

Rhys Hoskins is one of the key players to watch, but he has been struggling this season. Unfortunately, he is batting just .219 with 10 home runs, 28 RBIs, and 21 runs. Willy Adames is one of the best hitters in the league, as he is batting .238 with 12 home runs, 51 RBIs, and 38 runs, well on pace for over 100 runs driven in. Additionally, he is hitting .351 with 20 hits, one home run, eight RBIs, and 12 runs over 17 games against the Padres in his career.

Christian Yelich is having a resurgent season, batting .324 with seven home runs, 32 RBIs, and 25 runs. Yet, he has struggled against the Padres, hitting just .201 with 38 hits, five home runs, 15 RBIs, and 28 runs against them. William Contreras is having an excellent season, batting .304 with nine home runs, 48 RBIs, and 53 runs. Furthermore, he is hitting .250 with 11 hits, two home runs, eight RBIs, and seven runs across 13 games against the Padres.

Milwaukee has had solid pitching. So far, they are ninth in team ERA. The Brew Crew also have good relievers. Amazingly, their bullpen ranks second in the majors in team ERA.

The Brewers will cover the spread if their bats continue to slug the ball well. Then, they need Wilson to pitch well.

Why The Padres Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Padres have stayed afloat this season because of their hitting. However, their inconsistent pitching has hindered them in their hopes of keeping up with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Despite that, they do have a strong lineup with some good hitters.

The Padres are second in batting average, seventh in on-base percentage, and 11th in runs. Additionally, they are 12th in home runs and 14th in slugging percentage.

Luis Arraez has been a good leadoff hitter since the Padres acquired him in a trade with the Miami Marlins. Also, he has done well in his career against the Brewers, batting .271 with 19 hits, one home run, seven RBIs, and nine runs over 22 games. Fernando Tatis Jr. has been one of the best hitters on the Padres for a few years. Now, he hopes to drive runners across the plate in this one. Manny Machado has declined a little. Yet, he still is batting .275 with 11 hits, two home runs, seven RBIs, and three runs over his past 10 games against the Brewers.

San Diego has been inconsistent on the mound. Currently, they are 17th in team ERA. The Padres have done slightly better with their relievers. Ultimately, the bullpen ranks 11th in team ERA.

The Padres will cover the spread if they can avoid the slow start, and their bats can give them the lead. Next, they need Mazur to pitch well.

Final Brewers-Padres Prediction & Pick

The Brewers are 39-34 against the run-line record. Meanwhile, the Padres are 37-40. Milwaukee is also 22-17 against the spread on the road. Likewise, San Diego is just 13-25 against the spread at home. The Brewers are the better team right now and have the better lineup. For this particular showdown, they have the slightly better pitcher. We could see a scenario where the Brewers take advantage of an inexperienced pitcher early and put the Padres in a hole they cannot climb out of. Brewers cover the spread on the road.
