Denver Broncos quarterback Drew Lock will be sidelined for at least two weeks after suffering a shoulder injury during Sunday's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Lock suffered a severe rotator cuff strain, and will be re-evaluated in two weeks. Schefter also noted backup quarterback Jeff Driskel will start on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Mike Klis of KUSA Denver added more details, noting it is possible the injury could keep Drew Lock out up to six weeks.

Klis might have qualified the timeline as “relatively good news” for Lock and the Broncos, though labral issues can be ominous for quarterbacks.

Lock was removed from the game after a strip-sack by Steelers linebacker Bud Dupree, who caught Lock from behind. He will now hope his shoulder shows improvement over the course of the next two weeks.

The 23-year-old was named the starter after replacing veteran signal-caller Joe Flacco at the tail end of the 2019 season and going 4-1 in the team's last five games. However, it has been an inauspicious start to the 2020 season.

Drew Lock had a decent showing in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans, though he fumbled twice and averaged just over 6.5 yards gained per pass attempt. Lock had also been struggling early against a dominant Steelers defense, completing just one of his first five pass attempts before being removed from the game.

The Broncos' playoff hopes already appear to be on the fringes, particularly after it was revealed No. 1 receiver Courtland Sutton suffered a torn ACL on Sunday.

Denver will need Driskel to keep them afloat while Lock recovers.
