This NFL offseason has been one of the craziest in the history of the league. Maybe no one improved more this offseason than the Denver Broncos. They already had a very good roster, but were missing a quarterback. They took care of that right away, trading for Future Hall of Famer Russell Wilson.

Denver then added some pass rushing help by poaching Randy Gregory from the Dallas Cowboys.

But one of the other storylines for the Broncos was their backfield. Javonte Williams had an outstanding rookie season in 2021. He rushed for over 900 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 4.4 yards per carry. He also caught 43 balls out of the backfield.

With Melvin Gordon's contract expiring, it was thought that the former Pro Bowl tailback might be headed elsewhere. After all, they had Williams ready to take on a larger role. But on Tuesday night, the Broncos surprised a lot of people and re-signed Gordon to a one-year $5 million contract, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

The two-headed attack in 2021 was one of the best rushing games in football. Gordon also rushed for over 900 yards last year. The ability for Denver to always keep a fresh running back in the game helped wear defenses down. The problem was that they didn't have a quarterback that scared secondaries.

Now they do.

This move cannot be understated on how important it is for the Broncos offense. The AFC West is loaded with the Chiefs, the re-tooled Los Angeles Chargers and the Las Vegas Raiders.
