While the Denver Broncos are getting Drew Lock back under center, he'll be without one of his pass-catching options. Just a day before the Broncos take on the New England Patriots, Noah Fant has been ruled out, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Fant suffered an ankle injury back in Week 4 versus the New York Jets that caused him to be carted off of the field. At the least, Fant's injury wasn't considered to be season-ending and he's expected to return in the near future.

However, despite having an extra week to get ready for the Patriots, Fant won't be in uniform for the Broncos. But seeing that it took until Saturday to rule him out, the second-year tight end seems to be nearing a return to the field.

Prior to sustaining an ankle ailment in Week 4, Fant was one of the consistent receiving threats in the offense. The Iowa product combined for 19 receptions for 219 yards and two touchdowns in the first four games of the season.

Along with Fant, Denver will also be without Melvin Gordon in their backfield on Sunday. Gordon was able to practice during the week, even though he was cited for a DUI earlier in the week.

Despite being able to practice, Gordon would be diagnosed with strep throat. As a result, Phillip Lindsay will likely see the lion share of the touches in Denver's backfield upon his return.

After having two weeks to prepare for the Patriots, the Broncos are going to be shorthanded on the offensive side of the ball.
