The Denver Broncos made a bit of a surprising move by signing former Las Vegas Raiders QB Jarrett Stidham as Russell Wilson's backup. With Sean Payton running the show in Denver, a lot of things are going to change, and Stidham brings an interesting presence to the QB room, especially after Wilson struggled in 2022.

However, the decision to bring in Stidham might not be good news for Wilson in the long run, and Peter King detailed that in his latest edition of Football Morning in America.

” After Derek Carr was benched in Vegas in late December, Stidham, in his first NFL start and facing the best defense in football, San Francisco, put up 365 passing yards, three TD passes and 34 points. So now Payton buys him to be Russell Wilson’s backup, and nothing needs to be said to Wilson about it. If Wilson by midseason 2023 is having a similarly disastrous season to his first one in Denver, Payton won’t have to punt on the season. He’ll have an intriguing backup waiting in the wings.”

Russell Wilson's struggles in his first year in Denver were evident, and he threw for 3,524 yards with 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. The Broncos had Super Bowl hopes but won just five games in 2022, and Nathaniel Hackett was fired.

However, the addition of Jarrett Stidham could be something to watch, especially if Wilson's struggles continue during the 2023 season. With the way Stidham played in his short run with the Raiders, Sean Payton might not be afraid to make the switch, and the pressure is on after the Broncos gave up a lot to land Payton as the new head coach.
