The NFL was stunned silent when Denver Broncos quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was carted off the field after a scary hit to his head. Bridgewater was removed from the game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 15 and was taken to a nearby hospital via ambulance for further examination. After the game, Broncos head coach Vic Fangio offered an encouraging update on Bridgewater's status, via Aric DiLalla.

Fangio told reporters that everything “checked out good” with Bridgewater, but noted the 29-year-old would be staying overnight at the hospital for further observation. All things considered, this is fantastic news for Broncos fans, and of course, Bridgewater himself, who is only a few years removed from another freak injury that nearly cost him his career.

The play occurred when Bridgewater scrambled with the ball in efforts of picking up a first down early on in the second half. He was hit in the back while diving forward to pick up some extra yards, and the force from the hit resulted in the quarterback's head hitting hard into the turf. Bridgewater lay near-motionless while players took a knee on the field around him and the cart, along with a backboard and stretcher, was brought onto the field.

Initial reports described Bridgewater as having “movement in all extremities” and now this latest update is even more encouraging, as it seems the Broncos' star will be back on his feet before long.

The Broncos lost the game 15-10, with quarterback Drew Lock coming on to replace the injured Bridgewater. Denver's next game comes in Week 16 against the Las Vegas Raiders, though Bridgewater's playing status for that game remains unclear. For now, we're just thankful the quarterback avoided any serious injury in this latest scare.
