The 2022 NFL offseason has just begun and already there has been head-turning news. In what is shaping up to be a rough offseason for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the offense has now lost a vital piece to the offensive line. Surprisingly, pro bowl guard Ali Marpet has announced his retirement from football.

According to Greg Auman, the Buccaneers guard has officially called it a career. At just 28 years old, Marpet retires from football early. This is a move we've seen happen before, but it's still shocking nonetheless. For Tampa Bay, they suddenly have a hole to fill on the offensive line.

Ali Marpet made the announcement on Instagram, sharing a lengthy post with his followers. After winning the Super Bowl just a year ago, it seems the Buccaneers are about to face a rebuild sooner, rather than later. For Marpet, he now has the privilege of living the retired life early after wracking up some money through a short NFL career.

It's a decision we rarely see, but at the end of the day, it makes a ton of sense. Ali Marpet has a Super Bowl ring and a Pro Bowl appearance with the Buccaneers. Football is a dangerous game and the choice to call it a career on his own terms is respectable. Now, Marpet can dive into a new career while living comfortably with the money he's earned playing football.

Maybe early retirements become the new trend in the NFL. There are still rumors swirling around Aaron Donald potentially hanging it up at just 30 years old. Regardless, Ali Marpet walks away from the game, as he feels it's what is best for him and his family. As for the Buccaneers, they now have another big loss to the roster.
