Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Rob Gronkowski continues to make a strong case to be the greatest tight end in NFL history.

In the Buccaneers’ NFC wild-card win over the Philadelphia Eagles, Gronkowski made notable playoff history, as he passed longtime Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne for third place on the all-time playoff receptions list. His five catches against the Eagles upped his playoff receptions total to an astounding 94.

Entering the Buccaneers’ NFC divisional round matchup with the Los Angeles Rams, Gronkowski needed a mere 12 receiving yards to pass Hall of Fame wideout Michael Irvin (1,315 receiving yards) for the third-most such yards in NFL playoff history.

It did not take long for the four-time Super Bowl-winning tight end to reach this feat, as he jumped into third place in this historic leaderboard following his 29-yard reception over the late stages of the first quarter.

As it stands, Gronkowski now ranks behind Hall of Fame wideout Jerry Rice and former New England Patriots teammate Julian Edelman in both of these notable playoff leaderboards.

Gronkowski simply continues to rack up milestones after another at this point in his career. For many, Gronkowski could call it a career, and his resume would already be good enough to earn him the right to be called the best tight end that has ever played the sport, which is a notion that Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady much agrees with.

For now, Gronkowski is aiming to do what he can to help push the Buccaneers to a second consecutive Super Bowl appearance.
