After winning Super Bowl 55 last month in dominant fashion, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered the offseason needing to make sure that the key players from their title run would return for at least another season.

After placing the franchise tag on wide receiver Chris Godwin and agreeing to a two-year extension on linebacker Lavonte David earlier this week, the team agreed on a new deal with the most important piece of the puzzle.

Quarterback Tom Brady received an extension that will keep him in Tampa Bay through 2022. The terms of the contract also give the Buccaneers the flexibility to re-sign some of the team’s other free agents, including outside linebacker Shaq Barrett.

But if there was any concern that Barrett could be headed elsewhere, his comment on Brady’s latest Instagram post should be a good sign for Buccaneers fans:

In a post marking his extension with the Bucs, the seven-time Super Bowl champion made it clear that the goal is to “keep the band together,” to which Barrett responded affirmatively.

In his two seasons with the Buccaneers, Barrett was named to the Pro Bowl in 2019 and led the league in sacks that season with 19.5. He remained one of the league’s best pass rushers in 2020, recording 8.0 sacks, 43 solo tackles, 16 quarterback hits, three passes defended, and two forced fumbles en route to his first title.

After signing a one-year deal with Tampa Bay back in 2019, the team gave the 28-year-old the franchise tag back in 2020, with both sides unable to come to a deal. But if his comment on Brady’s post is any indication, it is clear that Barrett wants to return to Tampa Bay to try to help the team defend its title. Look for a deal to get done sooner rather than later.
