Tom Brady is still mulling about his future in the NFL, but if you're going to ask Shaun King, he thinks the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback should call it a career.

King, who played for the Bucs from 1999 to 2003, said in a recent interview with Compare.bet that Father Time has caught up with Brady. Of course there is no shame in that since TB12 is already 45 years old and has cemented himself as the greatest quarterback of all time, but the fact remains that the NFL icon is already a “shell of himself.”

Let’s be honest, man. Why does everybody beat around the bush? Tom Brady is the most accomplished quarterback at the professional level we’ve ever seen, and nobody in modern football is getting to 10 Super Bowls, and they’re definitely not winning seven. In spite of that, you still should be honest about what he is now. He’s a shell of himself. Especially when he’s encountered with pressure,” King explained, via Fox News.

Tom Brady led the Buccaneers to the playoffs once again in the 2022 campaign, but it was definitely not how he imagined things would go when he decided to retire and unretire in the offseason. Tampa Bay finished on top of the NFC South, albeit with a losing record of 8-9. The team eventually fell in the Wild Card round against the Dallas Cowboys.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion failed to live up to expectations, but according to Shaun King, it's just part of growing old for a player. One loses his effectiveness through time and age remains “undefeated.”

“It happens, man. You get old. You step off the sidewalk and you feel like you jumped off a ten-story building. It happens to everybody. It’s just a part of getting old,” King furthered.

“Yeah, in spurts he can still make some throws, and, yeah, every second or third game he can have a fourth quarter that makes you remember how great he was. But from start to finish, he’s not the same player. Age is undefeated. If you watch Tom Brady play, when he is under pressure and duress, he is completely out of whack. That’s just the reality of it.”

It remains to be seen what Brady will do in his career, but as King said, he has nothing left to prove and could certainly call it quits if he wants to.
