The Chicago Bulls and the Detroit Pistons went to battle on Sunday night in Chicago, and it was an important game for both teams. We are now a few weeks into the season, and we are starting to learn more and more about each team. Both the Pistons and Bulls have gotten off to shaky starts this season, and both teams needed to get a win on Sunday. Chicago came into the game with a 3-6 record, and Detroit came in with a 2-8 record. Both needed momentum, and the Bulls got it with a 119-108 victory.

Detroit got out to a fast start in this one and got a double-digit lead early, but the Bulls quickly stormed back and made things close for the duration of the game. Chicago ended up making the winning plays late, and they pulled away for the victory. It was a big win, and they did it without one of their key players, Alex Caruso, who is battling a toe injury. Billy Donovan explained why he kept him out, and provided an update for his injury.

“In my conversation with medical, because we didn't have shootaround this morning, they had some interaction with Alex (Caruso),” Billy Donovan told the media after the game. “I don't think there's any question that you're looking to take into consideration the fact that we're in a back-to-back, we've got five (games) in seven (days), I think six in nine. So you sit there and say ‘okay, do you let this try to calm down a little bit or do these games potentially start setting him back.' He does have some discomfort, I never asked ‘Alex, can you play or not?' I do think when he was out there he didn't feel great and didn't want to go, and we're always going to be cautious with him and try to make good decisions, but certainly I think you have to look at the schedule that's in front of us right now in terms of trying to get him healthy.”

Donovan was asked if Caruso was day-to-day, and while he couldn't give a definitive answer, he did say that he didn't expect it to be weeks. It sounds like Caruso's injury is minor and that the Bulls don't want it to get any worse, and he didn't play out of precaution. The schedule is busy for Chicago, and those games take a toll on the players.

The Bulls are back in action on Monday night on the road against the Milwaukee Bucks.
