Chicago Bulls All-Star DeMar DeRozan made history on Wednesday night against the Sacramento Kings, breaking a 60-year-old record previously held by Wilt Chamberlain by pouring in 38 points on 16-of-27 shooting in a 125-118 victory. The record? DeRozan is now the first player in NBA history to record seven straight games with at least 35 points on 50% shooting or better.

The Bulls star has been on a ridiculous tear over these last seven games, carrying Chicago as the team deals with a number of injuries:

Putting up those kind of point totals is impressive enough, but to do it on this level of efficiency makes it even more impressive. Toss in the fact that DeRozan thrives on a diet of difficult mid-range shots, and it gets even more impressive. Throughout this run, the Bulls veteran has only hit four 3-pointers, with three of those coming in one game.

DeRozan is a true throwback, and he has been putting the Bulls on his back during this stretch. They head into the All-Star break winners of five straight games to get to 38-21 on the season, which currently has them alone in first place in the Eastern Conference. This despite Zach LaVine battling through a knee injury and missing the last three games while Lonzo Ball, Alex Caruso and Patrick Williams all remain out with long-term injuries.

Outside of a few games missed, DeRozan has been a constant in the lineup, putting up over 28 points per game and putting himself in the MVP conversation. He's having the best season of his career and arguably the best season by a non-Michael Jordan Bull ever.

Chicago will now get some much-needed time off, though DeRozan and LaVine are off to Cleveland for All-Star festivities. The Bulls don't play again until next Thursday, when DeRozan will try to extend this historic streak to eight straight games against the Atlanta Hawks.
