Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever take on the New York Liberty. Our WNBA odds series has our Fever Liberty prediction, odds, and pick. Find out how to watch Fever Liberty.

The Caitlin Clark WNBA rookie season took a dramatic turn on Saturday afternoon. The Indiana Fever and Clark defeated the Chicago Sky by one point, giving the Fever their first home-court win of the season and their second win overall. The result mattered, but what made national headlines during and after the game was a very hard foul given by Chicago's Chennedy Carter on Clark. Analysis of the game and some of the sequences preceding that foul showed that there had been some trash talk and building animosity before Carter did what she did. To the amazement of most people, Carter was not assessed a technical or flagrant foul, just a common foul. It is generally agreed upon that Carter should have received something more than a common foul. Clark is certainly a target for opponents because of how good she is, but this was more than just targeting her because she is a talented and skillful 3-point shooter. This seemed to go beyond that, and game officials were not on top of their job. Clark definitely needs more help on her Indiana roster, a point we keep making when we preview Indiana games this WNBA season. A figure no less than Draymond Green pointed out on Saturday that the Fever need to bring aboard an enforcer — think of Anthony Mason or Charles Oakley from the 1990s New York Knicks. The Fever currently don't have that kind of player but might need one so that opposing players won't consider roughing up Clark the way Carter and the Sky did on Saturday. It's an extra plot point heading into this game in New York versus the Liberty.

Why The Fever Could Cover The Spread

The New York Liberty have been a nightmare for WNBA bettors who have picked them against the spread this season. The Liberty keep getting fat double-digit spreads near 14 or 15 points. They keep gaining leads of 12 to 15 points in the first half, which makes it seem likely that they will cover the spread. Then they falter late in the second and early in the third quarter and let teams back into games. They get roped into close games in the fourth quarter and ultimately fail to cover the spread. This happened against the Phoenix Mercury and the Washington Mystics this past week. New York is not usually covering these large spreads it keeps receiving. Why trust the Liberty at this point?

Why The Liberty Could Cover The Spread

The Liberty beat the Fever by 36 earlier this season, but the bigger reason New York will cover a huge spread is that Indiana just played that exhausting game against the Sky on Saturday. This is another back-to-back for the Fever, whereas the Liberty got Saturday off and stayed at home after hosting Washington on Friday. New York should be a lot fresher, and the last time Indiana played a back-to-back, it did not cover the spread in the second half of that back-to-back, losing by nearly 20 to Las Vegas.

Final Fever-Liberty Prediction & Pick

The Liberty are not covering these huge spreads, but they are winning first halves. You should play the Liberty on the first quarter spread and then — if New York gets an early 15-point lead — take the Fever plus the live spread, which will grow to over 20 points.

Final Fever-Liberty Prediction & Pick: Liberty -15
