Three weeks from today, the Chicago Bears will select Caleb Williams with the 1st overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. I say this as if it is a virtual certainty, and that's because if they don't, it will instantly become one of the most stunning and memorable moments in NFL Draft history. This is not just because Williams is arguably one of the greatest quarterback prospects to ever come into the league. Since trading away Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers only a few weeks ago, all signs have pointed to the Bears taking Williams with the #1 pick, so if things were to go any differently on draft night, it would come as a shock to the pro football world.

As expected, Caleb Williams was among the first players to head to Chicago for one of the Bears' top-30 visits. But before Williams took his official visit at Halas Hall on Wednesday, he dined not only with Bears front office personnel, but also with members of the current Bears roster as well on Tuesday night.

“I will not tell you where it was, but I will tell you not only did Caleb Williams have a Bears meal, not only was Caleb Williams with front office members, but they had him dine with current members of the Chicago Bears,” Mark Silverman of ESPN 1000 shared (h/t Ryan Taylor of NBC Sports Chicago). “They had him not sit with the Bears executives, who were there by the way, but he sat and ate with current players on the current Bears roster.”

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer tweeted that wide receiver DJ Moore and cornerback Tyrique Stevenson were two of the Bears players at the dinner, and rumors indicate tight end Cole Kmet and guard Teven Jenkins may have been present too, given their recent attendance for a Chicago Cubs home game. In time, Williams will need to develop relationships with each and every member of the Bears roster, as well as the many individuals who are on the coaching staff and in the front office. But for now, Williams' top-30 visit with Chicago was meant to be an extension of his introduction to his eventual team and the franchise whose hopes rest on his shoulders.

What Ryan Poles, Matt Eberflus are saying about Caleb Williams

While some players on the Bears roster have provided pushback on trading Justin Fields away and bringing in a rookie quarterback, the decision-makers in Chicago have been nothing but impressed by Williams.

“When you talk to his teammates, they don’t like him, they love him,” Bears GM Ryan Poles said during the NFL Owner's Meetings last week, per Kevin Fishbain and Adam Jahns of The Athletic. “His leadership, how he brings people together. He’s intentional with his leadership. Same goes with the staff. I’m having a hard time finding a person that doesn’t like him or even love him.”

Head coach Matt Eberflus was equally impressed by Williams (the person) and as expected, also impressed by Williams (the player).

“We'll just continue on with some of the install that we installed there in the pro day,” Eberflus said, per Courtney Cronin of ESPN. We'll keep continuing on that journey, teaching him more of the offense and then having him give it back to us and see where he is that way. He's been great that way. Again, spend some more time visiting with him. He'll get a chance to spend some more time with the offensive staff that wasn't there at the pro day. It's going to be good.”
