It has been a tough week of health news for the royal family. On the heels of Catherine, Princess of Wales, being hospitalized for an abdominal surgery, Buckingham Palace just announced that King Charles III will be hospitalized next week to treat an enlarged prostate.
The royal family released a statement explaining that the King's condition is benign but he must undergo a “corrective procedure.”
“In common with thousands of men each year,” the statement continues, “the King has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate.”
Britain's National Health Service explains on their website that benign prostate enlargement is common in men over 50 and is not usually a serious condition. Further, the condition also is not associated with an increased risk of developing prostate cancer. King Charles III is 75 years old.
As for Princess Catherine, she underwent abdominal surgery on Tuesday, and it is anticipated she will spend up to two weeks of recovery in the hospital. Kensington Palace revealed her procedure was planned and successful, although not much else is known about her condition. The BBC reports that it is not cancer-related.
Buckingham palace added that King Charles is expected to postpone his public engagements for a short period of recuperation. Catherine, meanwhile, is not expected to return to royal duties for a few months. The statement released by Kensington Palace explained, “Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.”
Sounds like it was a trying week for Princess Catherine and King Charles III, but both should be on the mend and back on their feet soon.
