Fashion's biggest night was a little bit dimmer this year as fans and celebs awaited the arrival of Rihanna. The singer who previously teased her Met Gala look last month, did not walk the red carpet this year. According to People, the “Diamonds” singer did not attend the Met Gala because she came down with the flu.
Rihanna and her partner A$AP Rocky made a “fashionably” late appearance as they walked the red carpet after 10pm the last two years so fans were expecting the two to also make a late arrival this year. Last month, she gave a vague hint at what she was going to wear.
“I'm actually just keeping it real simple this year. Very simple,” Rihanna told Extra in an interview last month.
She told British Vogue that she would be wearing her own brand.
“I'm gonna wear Fenty something! Fenty Beauty, Fenty Skin, Fenty Savage,” she shared.
“I've done so much s**t in my life. I've had my nipples out, my panties out. But now, those are the things which, I guess as a mom and an evolved young lady — emphasis on young — there are things I feel like I would never do. Like, ‘Oh my God, I really did that? Nips out?'” Rihanna added.

Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce Skip The Met Gala
Fans were also let down by Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce who did not attend the Met Gala this year. While both were invited individually and they did not confirm their attendance, fans were hoping that the couple would change their mind and attend.
TMZ previously reported that both of them have RSVP'd “no.”
Swift has not attended the Met Gala since 2016. If they were to have attended the Met Gala it would have been their red carpet debut. She has also never attended the Met Gala with any of her boyfriends before.
It was believed the singer was not going to attend the Met Gala due to a potential scheduling conflict. She is set to be in Paris for her May 9 and the Met Gala is on May 6 so it's possible she might have rehearsals and will be preparing for her tour.
Blake Lively who is always a sight to be seen on the red carpet was also missing Met Monday this year. Like her bestie Taylor Swift, Lively's excuse for missing out also might be work-related. The actress is set to star in two upcoming movies: It Ends With Us which is based on the best-selling novel written by Colleen Hoover and If, the live-action/animated fantasy-comedy coming to theaters this month.
