After winning the 2016 NBA Finals together, many believed that the duo of LeBron James and Kyrie Irving would last forever in Cleveland. However, there was definitely a rift between both players that extended back to when James first joined the Cavaliers in 2014. Irving eventually demanded a trade from the Cavaliers in the off-season, and James was surprised by it. Still, he actually did little to mend the broken relationship between the two. Long story short, Irving was traded to the Celtics for Isaiah Thomas and Jae Crodwer, both of whom have been traded to different teams on the trade deadline.
Some believe that James and Irving still hold animosity towards each other, and many signs have pointed towards this opinion. Both players have gave conflicting reports about their relationship and how the whole trade process went down. To make matters more interesting, James selected Irving on his All-Star team, even though both players currently have no cordial relationship. Nonetheless, both James and Irving believe that the experience is amazing, per Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com.
“Those thoughts still go into my head of how great it was to break the drought in our city, over 50-plus years,” James said. “The both of us had magical Finals runs and, so it's always special.”
“I was telling some of the guys that this was, for me, myself, Russ (Westbrook), K.D., A.D. (Anthony Davis) and LeBron, and it's probably one of the best fives I've ever been on the court with,” Irving said. “Just the talent is, wow, man. And you see how big of fans we are with one another and we're all on the floor together, it's pretty awesome.
Hopefully, both players can click on the floor together and reignite their friendship on Sunday night.
