All the Los Angeles Chargers currently know about who their starting quarterback will be come Week 1 of 2020 is that it will not be Philip Rivers, whom the club parted ways with after 16 years.

As of right now, Tyrod Taylor is penciled in as the starter, but not surprisingly, Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn is fully committing to Taylor just yet:

“He’s in the driver’s seat [to start], but nothing is finalized,” Lynn said, according to Gilbert Manzano of The Orange County Register.

That isn't exactly a ringing endorsement for Taylor.

Los Angeles has several options it can turn to other than Taylor.

The Chargers can pick up one of Cam Newton or Jameis Winston in free agency. They can swing a trade for someone like Andy Dalton. They can potentially draft a quarterback with the sixth overall pick (or possibly even trade up).

Basically, nothing is set in stone for LA, and you can't necessarily blame Lynn for being a little iffy on Taylor.

Taylor joined the Chargers last year and served as backup to Rivers in his first season with the club.

The 30-year-old originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens back in 2011 and spent the first four years of his career behind Joe Flacco.

Taylor finally caught his break in 2015, as he signed with the Buffalo Bills and was named the team's starting quarterback that season, making the Pro Bowl after throwing for 3,035 yards, 20 touchdowns and six interceptions.

However, Taylor's play dropped off in 2016. He managed to hold the Bills' starting job through 2017 before being traded to the Cleveland Browns in March 2018. Taylor began the 2018 campaign under center, but was quickly displaced by Baker Mayfield.
