It appears as though Pro Bowl pass rusher Joey Bosa will be a member of the Los Angeles Chargers for years to come — and then some. According to a Tuesday evening report from Adam Schefter of ESPN, Bosa and the Chargers have come to terms on a five-year, $135 million contract extension that links him to the AFC West franchise for at least the next six seasons.

Not only that, but Bosa has reportedly earned $78 million in fully guaranteed money at the signing of this new deal while there will be $102 million in guaranteed money in all. Bosa and the Chargers have now set a new NFL record for the most guaranteed money ever for a defensive player's contract.

The Chargers originally selected Bosa, who almost instantly became a sensational professional pass rusher, with the No. 3 overall pick in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft out of Ohio State University. The 25-year-old defender and two-time Pro Bowler has since spent his entire professional playing career as a member of the Chargers while compiling a total of 40 sacks across his first 51 regular season games atop the highest level.

Unfortunately for Bosa and company, though, the Chargers still reside in the always competitive AFC West division, which is a group that is only getting better with the 2020 campaign now looming large. Of course, the Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl in impressive fashion this past season, while both the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders appear to be on the upswing.
