Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is apparently a huge fan of Las Vegas Raiders backup QB Marcus Mariota. This is exactly why Herbert couldn't hide his excitement when Mariota was brought into Thursday night's matchup between the Chargers an the Raiders to replace the injured Derek Carr.

After the game, Herbert, who himself is an Oregon alumni just like Marcus, spoke about his experience of playing against one of his biggest idols in Mariota:

“Pretty crazy experience,” Herbert said, via Gilbert Manzano of the Los Angeles Daily News. “I grew up watching Marcus. He was my favorite player. Just being from Eugene, I knew that program so well. To be able to play a couple games against him, it’s been really cool just to see him out on the field. It’s everything I’ve ever wanted.”

Between the two, however, it was LA's Justin Herbert who came up with a more impressive performance, as he led the Chargers to a 30-27 overtime win over Mariota and the Raiders. Herbert came up with a 53-yard pass deep in overtime to set up wide receiver Jalen Guyton for the game-winning drive.

As for Marcus Mariota, the former Heisman trophy winner himself had a noteworthy outing on Thursday, deputizing well for the injured Carr. Mariota finished with 17-of-28 passes for 266 yards, while also adding a touchdown and one interception. There is some fear that Derek Carr suffered a significant groin injury, which could mean more playing time for Mariota in the coming weeks.
