The Los Angeles Chargers are signing tight end Lance Kendricks, according to Field Yates of ESPN. The addition comes off the heels of Hunter Henry's knee injury, which was suffered in Week 1 and known about before Week 2.

For your information, no, I did not misspell Antonio Gates.

Formerly of the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams, Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots, Lance Kendricks, 31, should be a receiving threat for the Chargers. Over his career, the veteran tight end has recorded 241 receptions (62% catch rate) for 2,505 yards and 19 touchdowns. His most outstanding season came in 2012, with the Rams, when he tallied 42 receptions (65.6% catch rate) for 519 yards and four touchdowns.

The Patriots released Kendricks on Sept. 9. The NFL handed him a one-game suspension due to violating the league's substance-abuse policy. However, since he was on the Patriots' roster for a week, he will not have to serve the suspension with Los Angeles.

It's unknown where Kendricks slots in for the Chargers, but expect coach Anthony Lynn to replicate Henry's vertical prowess in their new tight end. Both of their backups, Virgil Green and Sean Culkin, didn't record any receptions in Week 2 after Henry's injury (which should sideline four to six weeks).

The Chargers are looking for a bounce-back win when they host the Houston Texans Week 3. Both teams are 1-1. Los Angeles is coming off of a 13-10 loss to the Lions in Detroit, while Houston is coming off of a 13-12 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars at home. Houston, in recent memory, has struggled to contain tight ends.
