The Los Angeles Chargers have been easing Melvin Gordon back onto the field in the past two weeks. After having a limited role in Weeks 4 and 5, Gordon is expected to play more versus the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Prior to Week 4, Gordon ended his holdout from the team that lasted the length of the preseason and the first three games of the season. In his first game back, the team's starting running back didn't receive any snaps with the offense as the Chargers routed the Miami Dolphins 30-10.

Instead, Austin Ekeler continued to handle the workload in the backfield; as he had done for the first three weeks of the season. Last Sunday, Gordon saw his role increase as he was given 32 offensive snaps against the Denver Broncos.

With those 32 snaps, Gordon rushed for just 31 yards on 12 rushing attempts. In addition, the versatile running back also caught four passes for just seven yards in Los Angeles' third loss of the season.

Now, with the team desperate for a win, Anthony Lynn is ready to deploy Gordon as the full-time back in the offense once again. The Chargers have struggled to put up points this season (20.6 points per game) despite the weapons they boast on the offensive side of the ball.

Over the past three seasons, Gordon has thrived in the Chargers offense as the featured back. The Wisconsin product averaged 287 touches for 1,457 yards from scrimmage and nearly 13 touchdowns per season from 2016-2018.

With that in mind, Lynn is hopeful that Gordon can return to his once-dominant form for the team on Sunday night in Week 6.
