Mike Pouncey is a top offensive lineman that has played at a high level for a long time. Now that he is 30, his time in the NFL is winding down. In his quest to snatch an elusive Super Bowl ring, he decided to re-sign with the Los Angeles Chargers.

The 15th overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft knows more than anyone that it's a tough balancing act to get as much cash as possible and competing for a team that can make a deep playoff run. His seven years with the Miami Dolphins have taught him that a big payday cannot compensate for a crack at the Super Bowl.

And after experiencing a deep playoff run with the Chargers, he wants to stay with one of the top teams in the AFC.

Per ESPN's Eric D. Williams:

“At this point of my career, this team gives me the best chance to win,” Pouncey said. “I’ve built a relationship with a lot of guys on this team. For me to want to leave here in Year 10 and go somewhere else, it didn’t make any sense to me, no matter what the number was in salary. I felt like whenever we got done with training camp and the offer was there, we jumped on it.”

He signed a one-year, $9 million extension that will keep him with the team through the 2020 season. Not only does the contract give him a good paycheck for his family, but it ensures that he spends his latter years with one of the AFC's top football outfits.
