It's still early in the preseason, but the Los Angeles Chargers look like they might have gotten a steal with their first-round pick Jerry Tillery. Tillery suffered a torn labrum before the NFL draft which caused him to fall all the way to pick 28, which allowed the Chargers to select him.

He missed all the practices during the spring but has been involved in training camp, and defensive coordinator Gus Bradley has taken notice of just how well he has performed.

“The way he works and the way he's been in meetings and walkthroughs (is impressive),” defensive coordinator Gus Bradley said via NFL.com. “He's a very detailed and a very prideful person.”

Tillery has been taking some reps with the first team, and Bradley thinks the more reps he gets, the better he is going to look.

“I think today was the first day, because he was involved more, where he stood out in a team situation,” Bradley said. “You saw flashes of it and you were like ‘Wow, OK. We just saw a flash of Jerry Tillery.' As he gets more and more reps (he'll improve).

“He's there mentally, I think he just needs the physical part of it now — the lining up and block reaction, things like that.”

If Tillery can make a significant impact this season, the Chargers defense is going to be scary. Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram anchor the defensive line, and adding Tillery to the group is going to be a headache for opposing offensive lines.
