The Kansas City Chiefs had a relatively quiet first round in the 2022 NFL Draft. They did trade up a few spots to the number 21 slot, but compared to the other moves of the day, they were pretty light. Despite that, KC fans have every reason to be excited after their first day of the draft.
Don't just take my word for it, though. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid himself was pleased with the selections of GM Brett Veich. Reid had a simple message on what he thought about the selections of the team today. (via Adam Teicher)

The Chiefs had two major holes to fill in the offseason: their defense, and the wide receiver room. Considering that they've already snagged Marques Valdez-Scantling and JuJu Smith-Schuster, the front office didn't mind passing on wide-outs in the first round (especially with how deep this wide receiver class is). Veich decided to focus more on defense, and he had two excellent picks.
Their first pick was at No. 21, which was originally the Patriots' pick. After trading up to that spot, the Chiefs selected cornerback Trent McDuffie, who will be replacing Tyrann Mathieu in their secondary. They also bolstered their pass-rushing by grabbing George Karlaftis at No. 30, which is an excellent choice.
With the rest of the AFC West loading up, the Chiefs are choosing to retool themselves in the draft. That makes sense, considering Patrick Mahomes' (well-deserved) gargantuan contract. It will be interesting to see who they select in the next few days, and if they'll make more moves to improve their roster.
