The Kansas City Chiefs were fortunate that Super Bowl–winning offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy wasn't hired by any NFL teams, but there's a chance he could be making his way to the college ranks. Despite the previous reports, another rumor paints Bienimeny as a candidate to land the Colorado head coaching job.

On Wednesday, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that Bieniemy wasn't expected to take the head coaching job at Colorado. However, Mike Klis of 9News is refuting those reports and believes Bieniemy is still a strong candidate for the vacant job.

Recently, Mel Tucker chose to leave Colorado after just one season to become the head coach at Michigan State. As a result, Colorado is interested in bringing in someone that has ties to the program.

Prior to becoming an NFL assistant, Bieniemy was a running back at Colorado from 1987-90. After a nine-year career in the NFL, Bieniemy chose to return to Colorado to be the team's running backs coach.

Now, Bieniemy currently serves as the Chiefs' top offensive coach under Andy Reid. In the last two seasons, Bieniemy has been a crucial part of Kansas City's success. Above all, he helped the franchise win a Super Bowl in 2019-20.

Bieniemy has been interviewed for multiple head coaching gigs in the NFL in the last two seasons. For some odd reason, no team has hired him as their next head coach. Despite being overlooked for other candidates, Bieniemy is considered a front-runner for a head coaching job in 2021.

It is unclear if Bieniemy is willing to sacrifice an NFL job to head back to his alma mater. Even though he appears to be uncertain, Colorado is prepared to do whatever it takes to pry him from the Chiefs.
