Kansas City Chiefs star Chris Jones is the latest athlete to release a statement on George Floyd's death.

Floyd, a black man was killed in Minneapolis on Memorial Day at the hands of Derek Chauvin, a white police officer. Chauvin had his knee on Floyd's neck as Floyd begged with the officer saying he couldn't breathe.

On Twitter, Chris Jones shared his condolences with the Floyd family but also pleaded that we figure out how to move forward without the destruction of property:

“First and foremost I wanted to share my condolences to the family of George Floyd as they, along with the entire country, mourns his unnecessary and tragic death. I stand with those who demand justice for George Floyd’s murder and systematic change to a system that has disregarded the lives of African-American men countless times. While I am filled with outrage at what has transpired and support all of the peaceful protests going on across the country. I want to urge everyone to figure out how we can continue this demand for change and bring an end to this institutional racism without self-destructing our communities and hurting innocent small businesses who all share our feelings and anger.“

As part of the protests, riots have also broken out in many cities, including Minneapolis where there were two straight nights of fires ravaging the city.

It's clear there are more changes that need to do in the world with civil rights. Hopefully, this is just the start of a conversation and there will be some real change in the world.
