Kansas City Chiefs running back Damien Williams has reportedly landed a two-year extension with the team after stepping up big in recent weeks.

Williams was thrown into the mix along with Spencer Ware following the Kareem Hunt saga, which saw Kansas City's former starter get released back in late November.

And when Ware went down to injury, that allowed Williams to be the featured back in the Chiefs' offense.

Apparently, his high-quality play has earned him a chance to stay with the franchise for the foreseeable future, according to Terez A. Paylor of Yahoo Sports:

The Chiefs have re-signed RB Damien Williams to a two-year extension, a source tells Yahoo Sports. KC has liked what it's seen from Kareem Hunt's replacement.

Williams has managed to rack up 100 yards from scrimmage in back-to-back games, and that's likely a big reason for Andy Reid and company wanting him to stick around for a while.

The former Oklahoma star rushed for two touchdowns and racked up 74 yards receiving against the Los Angeles Chargers, and then went for 103 yards on the ground while grabbing a receiving touchdown in the matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.

While the Chiefs currently find themselves on a two-game losing streak, Williams certainly hasn't been the problem.

However, Reid's team would love to get back on track in a big way against the Oakland Raiders this weekend with the playoffs just around the corner.

And once again, this should be another chance for Williams to showcase his skills in a favorable matchup.
