The 2018 season is winding down heading into the final week with the race for the MVP award having several players vying for the prestigious honor.

Throughout this process, Kansas City Chiefs second-year quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been pinned as being the frontrunner to earn the award behind his breakout campaign. During his fill-in host spot on FS1's “The Herd with Colin Cowherd,” Doug Gottlieb of Fox Sports voiced on Wednesday that he strongly believes that Mahomes is the clear-cut selection.

Mahomes has certainly made a strong argument to earn the award behind the type of season that he has put together in his first campaign as the starter. He has been a game-changing factor with his arm leading the league with 48 touchdown passes along with being second with 4,816 passing yards and a 114.0 passer rating.

The 23-year-old has quickly become a star in the league and has shown himself to have a unique skill set behind his strong accurate arm. He has helped make the Chiefs one of the powerhouse teams in the league as the focal point to their high-powered offense that has positioned them to contend for the Super Bowl this season.

New Orleans Saints star quarterback Drew Brees has put together an impressive campaign while leading his team to the best mark in the league, but the level of impact that Mahomes has had with the Chiefs is hard to match. This coupled by the fact that he may finish with 50 touchdown passes and 5,000 passing yards may make it extremely hard to deny him the award.
