In the wake of the questionable trade that sent star cornerback Marcus Peters from the Kansas City Chiefs to the Los Angeles Rams, it was revealed in an article today by longtime Sports Illustrated writer Peter King that the Chiefs called every single team in the NFL and only got any interest from three of them. There was one unknown team, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Rams.

“I’m told the Chiefs called all 31 other teams in the league this month on Peters, looking for a trade partner, and 28 teams either said they were not interested or did not make an offer of any value,” King said. “For a player with the playing history of Peters at a vital and hard-to-fill position, that’s amazing.

King found out that with such limited interest, the Chiefs decided to pull the trigger to ship Peters via trade to the Rams quite early.

“One team made an offer of a mid-round pick, laughable for a player of Peters’ age and stature. (My guess is that was Cleveland or Indianapolis.) Two were in it until the end — the Rams and 49ers. And the Rams’ offer of second- and fourth-round picks was evidently better than San Francisco’s,” King said.

Although the trade cannot be made official until the first day of NFL free agency on March 14, Peters is already talking smack to his Chiefs teammates. He even took a shot at Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes, stating that he's going to expect a lot of turnovers from the 2017 first-round pick when the Rams and Chiefs play next season.

In three seasons with the Chiefs, Peters made the Pro Bowl twice and racked up 19 interceptions, 151 total tackles and made 55 pass deflections.
