The Kansas City Chiefs suffered a tough road loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night, but in the defeat, Patrick Mahomes threw his 30th touchdown pass away from home, breaking Tom Brady's record for most road touchdown passes in a single season, according to NFL Research.

Brady had held the record since 2007.

It has been one heck of a season for Mahomes, who is in his first year as the Chiefs' starting quarterback.

He completed 23 of his 40 passes for 273 yards and three touchdowns against the Seahawks, and on the year overall, Mahomes has thrown for 4,816 yards, a league-leading 48 touchdowns and 11 picks while completing 66.4 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 114.

The 23-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Texas Tech, was originally selected by Kansas City with the 10th overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.

With Alex Smith still under center for the Chiefs in 2017, Mahomes sat on the bench for all but one game, but the writing was on the wall that Mahomes would likely take over as the starting signal-caller in 2018.

Sure enough, Kansas City traded Smith to the Washington Redskins during the offseason, opening the door for Mahomes to step in.

Mahomes has been sensational this year, and he is one of the top candidates for the NFL's Most Valuable Player award.

The Chiefs, however, have now lost two games in a row and missed an opportunity to clinch the AFC West division title on Sunday. They will play host to the Oakland Raiders next weekend.
